Just plugging away.

Flooring!
Flooring is in!

It’s been a whole week since our last post, and for that we apologize. We’ve been at it steady, but again, have little to show for it. It’s been a lot of sanding and painting and sanding and painting and sanding and . . . you’re starting to see the pattern here.

Dad was able to get the flooring in before the weekend and we couldn’t be happier with the result! He’s finished with the whole main area (living room & kitchen), so there’s just the foyer and sun room left. It really gave us a jolt to see the floors down. We’ve been elbow-deep in paint and sawdust for so long, it was refreshing to see such a big change happen so fast!

The very next day came the baseboards. I wanted something thick as to not need to place quarter round (bleh!), and Alethea wanted something tall. What we got was a 6″ tall, Colonial-style baseboard — a perfect marriage between an antique North American and classic English look.

Almost there!
Almost there!

The kitchen has been quite a grind.

Preparing. . .
Preparing. . .
. . . and sanding. . .

. . . and sanding. . .
. . . but soon we'll be wrapping things up!
. . . installing finishes!

In hindsight, it was quite a lot of work to change the cupboards from slightly off-white to white, but it’s really freshened the place up!

Before.
Before.
After?
After During

Well, it’s back to the grind for now. Well try to update more often going forward.

All the best,

Jeff

  1. Hey it’s really looking great. I love the flooring and the skirting board – good choice u guys and great fitting by ‘Dad’. I think the kitchen is worth it – it looks like your kitchen now. Great choice of colour to accent – I’m looking forward to seeing it and to enjoy all your hard work with a glass of wine and meal! We do enjoy reading and then discussing your progress and choices – you are both doing so well and Paul deserves a great deal of praise as you both do. Proud of what you have done and that you are still motivated after all the hard work you have put in. One last – large push and you will be over the line. Keep up the hard work but remember to have some relaxation – you both look a little tired here and you do have your whole lives ahead. Lots of love and hugs xxxx

    • It is looking great, you can see just from the photos all the hard work you have put in, so actually seeing it should blow us away! I worry when, Aunty Ali advises relaxation as she is normally foreman, project manager and labourer on any of her DIY ventures and is usually cracking the whip! Please remember to rest and play a little, all that hard work means you need to let yourselves have a little fun to. Well as usual I am being greedy and wanting the next instalment right away, it is rather like reading your favourite author and then having to wait for the next book to come out! Keep well both of you, give Paul our praise and thanks, because we would be there helping too if we could. Loves you both xxxx

  2. Stop already you are giving me a guilt complex.the flooring looks great keep up the good work.
