More shopping!

Hi guys,

So the last few days have been great, we are really seeing everything come together, slowly but surely. We have painted the first coat on the entire main floor and most of the second coat too and we love the colours we picked:

We have everything in place now for our bathroom and have just decided how high we want our taps which looks great (photos to come). Paul is going to drill everything and then we are going to paint it using Homestead Milk Paint, which is a bit daunting but we think it will look lovely when it’s done. More photos to follow (hopefully).

Today was another big shopping day as we bought most of our lighting. The chandelier in the main room is really huge and it hangs so low that we are constantly bashing our heads on it. As lovely as it is, if we try to hang it higher, it will end up looking even bigger for the space and it doesn’t really go with the pretty awesome looking old fan we have, so we have purchased this to replace it:

We think it matches the country look of the room beautifully. We also purchased a similar light for the hallway going downstairs:

We also went ahead and decided to replace the ugly dirty fixture in the kitchen with this pendant which is pretty and interesting to look at.

Having written a list of the final purchases we need to make and discovering a deep and abiding dislike for hardware stores we tried to get as much in one go as we could. We also purchased this mirror for our bathroom:

and this vanity light:

We chose these really pretty, simple glass shades to go with the lights. What do you think?

We also knew that we were going to have to replace the light in the basement room as the fixture was old and rickety, and frankly vile. As the basement will be our dining room, we wanted something a little nicer and went for this lighter-coloured fixture to match the airy feel of the room:

It is a semi mount as the ceiling is lower and we think it will look really pretty with our lovely dining room furniture!

Although we expected to purchase these things, the thought of spending lots of money made us feel slightly nauseous and we chickened out of buying the other things on the list today, but we will make another brave expedition into the depths of Home Depot and Lowes soon to finish our list. Really, as we keep crossing things off the list and it’s obviously getting shorter, we are really seeing the light at the end of the tunnel (hahaha I am so funny with my puns). We still have to pick carpet for the lower level, a new custom back door and then it’s finishing things like trim and vent covers and we will be on our way to finishing.

Let us know, as always, what you think of our picks We love hearing from you all 🙂

  1. Wow…. I’m loving the hurricane lamp feeling to the new main room lighting, in fact all the new lighting is pretty awesome. However, are you sure the single fixture for the main room will throw the amount of light you may need out? There may have been a reason the chandelier is so big, but I am sure you both would have taken that into consideration.
The wall colours look fantastic, it is great how well they look in the space and with the counter tops. I especially like the bathroom mirror, I think it is going to look great over the new vanity, is the lighting for the bathroom in the brushed brass colour or is it going to be the black that you have shown? The new kitchen lighting is a statement piece and I love the glass shades for the basement I think they are really cute. I can’t wait to see it all in situ, it is all coming together so well. I am really proud if both of you for all the effort and hard work you have put into your new home, and of course a hugh ‘Thank you’ to Paul for all the help he is giving you. My only wish is that we could be able to pop over and give you a hand. Keep up the good work guys…….. Loves you both x
